Blue Portals Music

2. October 2011 13:15 by Hamst3r in Tracks

Back in 2010 I made some music for a Portal mod titled Blue Portals.

Once the mod was out, I totally forgot to release all this new music. Two of the tracks ended up being released as regular tracks and the rest just sorta got ignored. Well, here they are, the missing tracks!

If you’ve heard the prior Portal-Themed music tracks I’ve done, you may notice that System Error is an oldie and Quarter-Mile is a modification of that.

This music also differs from my prior set of Portal-Inspired Music in that the lead designer requested that the music be less ambient and more melodic, sometimes calling for drums and organic instruments.

1. Materializing Cats in Space
2. Simply Think
3. Empty Chasms
4. Grinding Gears
5. Tea Party
6. Portal Dust
7. The Overseer
8. Where The Nightingale Sings
9. Quarter-Mile
10. System Error

New Track: Where the Nightingale Sings

10. July 2010 14:06 by Hamst3r in Tracks

There’s a mod in the works called, “Blue Portals”. It has an area with a Japanese garden sort of aesthetic. I was tasked with writing a calm music track to accompany the visuals.

The main instrument in the track is a Khim, which is essentially a smaller version of the Chinese Yangqin. There are also some flutes and tuned gongs, as well as a little bit of synthesis. It’s a very simple and sparse arrangement overall. :)

New Track: After The Last Sunset

11. February 2010 15:24 by Hamst3r in Tracks

The sun has set for the last time and it will never rise again. Make the most of this bleak situation and enjoy what precious time remains. The end belongs to those who believe the sun will rise again. As the last pocket of heat dissipates and the last plant dies, the stars of distant planets mock us from afar.

This is a piano solo I wrote around the idea of the sun dying and the time spent until the earth dies. :)

Anyways, check it out:

Aperture: Déjà Vu Soundtrack

21. June 2009 16:00 by Hamst3r in Tracks

Hey! Got 8 new tracks for you today, which equate to a little over 15 minutes of music. The music is overall very ambient with the exception of the last track.

This is the soundtrack for the Portal modification titled Aperture: Déjà vu. Information about the mod can be found on ModDB.

This music differs from my prior set of Portal Inspired Music in that the lead designer requested that the music be less melodic and more ambient. So I’ve used more evolving and noise-oriented sounds to keep the music interesting without a lot of melody going on.

This set of music has also been mixed louder than the previous set, so it should fit better in your music collection. :)

1. Deja Vu
2. Coil
3. Cyclical Chambers
4. Soul of the Machine
5. Administrator Access
6. Redundancy
7. Paramnesia
8. Why Did You Come Here

New Tracks: Where Am I and Barricade of Fire

19. April 2008 19:02 by Hamst3r in Tracks

Hi! :D

I just finished two new tracks. Stayed up all night working on them.

The first one is an extended and heavily built upon version of one of the “Portal Inspired” tracks. The track was called, Where Am I? and was actually the first track that I wrote for that ambient music project.

This extended Where Am I? mix takes the original theme and expands on it greatly, slowly building up to some heavy drum chops and piano arpeggios at around 3:00 in.

The second track is a hard rock song that I worked on with guitarist Josh Calles. The track is called Barricade of Fire and is part of another [insert video game name here] inspired project. I already have the guitars and groundwork laid out for 4 more of these rock and rocktronica tracks, so I’m guessing they’ll be up here pretty soon. :)

You can stream both tracks on THA Radio.

Or you can download them by right clicking on these links:
