New Track: Mode 7

27. July 2009 15:48 by Hamst3r in Tracks

Have you ever wondered what four Nintendo Game Boy handhelds playing in unison would sound like? No? Oh, ok.

Well, guess what?

It sounds like this new track!

The track is called Mode 7 and it’s a lot of buzzes and blips. A chiptune, if you will.

I’m a fan of single oscillator saw synths being used to emulate lead guitar sounds and other such nonsense, so there’s some of that sort of thing going on in this track.

Also, there’s no effects processing or mixing outside of a tape saturator and a mastering limiter to keep the overall sound under control.

Stylistically, I wasn’t attempting to mimic the music from any particular video game, though classics like Mega Man, F-Zero, Castlevania and others will always be in the back of my mind when I’m making stuff like this, so you might hear a bit of those in there.

New Track: The Fantastical Nikmis

5. April 2009 16:11 by Hamst3r in Tracks

MOAR!

Yes, that’s right, more new music this month.

This track is dedicated to the Fantastical Nikmis, found here.

He writes his own special breed of electro-classical music and often it is pure awesome. Recently, Mr.Nikmis expressed that he didn’t know any other musicians making classical-style music with synthesizers. Thus, I have written my own electro-classical composition!

I think I accomplished what I set out to do with this, so I am pleased. :)

New Track: Marble Madness Remix

2. April 2009 16:15 by Hamst3r in Tracks

Hey. :D

I put together a remix tonight of a song that I’ve been wanting to remix for a long time now.

It’s the music that plays in level 2 of Marble Madness. If you’ve played Marble Madness then you should surely recognize it. I think it’s the best song in the game. The original music is by Brad Fuller and Hal Canon. Hal Canon also did music for Gauntlet, which is pretty awesome.

Oh and fun fact: Marble Madness was the first video game to have stereo sound.

Anyways; I decided to do a Drum and Bass remix as DnB is one of my favorite genres. I also went for a more modern and authentic sound than my usual way of doing DnB.

Oh and there’s a video too using footage of a polygonal Marble Madness remake called Rolling Madness 3D:

New Track: The End of us All

25. March 2009 16:42 by Hamst3r in Tracks

Whoa! Guess what? ezmuze+ Hamst3r edition has been sent out for peer review – so it should be up on the XBOX Live Marketplace really soon! Wooo!

What this means is I can get back to doing other things, like making music, playing video games and making Submersible Hamster podcasts. :)

To kick this all off, I’ve made a new song and it’s called “The End Of Us All”.

This track was primarily inspired by over-listening to the awesome chiptune, “Rad” by AFinalDate.

I had also just purchased the QuadraSID VSTi and had been making a whole bunch of chiptune-style loops for ezmuze, so I was really in the mood to make a song like this. :)

The name is a reference to how video games typically place the entire weight of the world on the shoulders of the hero. Doesn’t matter if you’re a plumber or a prepubescent android, if you don’t save the world, we’re all going to die.

Anyways, check it out:
